Christy’s Kids: Challenge Yourself!
Christy’s Kids is a children’s television series that provides a platform for interaction between hearing
and deaf children by encouraging them to learn and communicate with sign language.
Host, co-producer, and Coloradoan, Christy Smith, gained national recognition with her participation
in CBS Survivor 6: The Amazon, where she excelled in a hearing environment, despite being profoundly
deaf. In the Christy’s Kids half-hour pilot program, shot on location at the Aspen Camp School for
the Deaf in Snowmass, Colorado, four kids, hearing and deaf, join Christy and friends on a challenging
outdoor adventure. Future shows will be modeled after this concept, with the intention of introducing
new characters and challenges in different locations. Christy’s Kids debuted on Denver’s PBS station,
KBDI in December 2004 and on Colorado’s statewide Rocky Mountain PBS in April 2005.
True Media Foundation is now seeking funding for a 13-part series for national syndication.
