Marijuana and The Teenage Brain
On April 17th, 2014 an all-youth crew from True Media’s BE HEARD! after-school program recorded Marijuana and the Teenage Brain, a live community-wide discussion with parents, youth, law enforcement and medical and industry professionals. The discussion, was filmed at the Carbondale Middle School auditorium, and was simulcast at Glenwood Springs High School and Rifle High School via the web. This was a public event moderated by former BE HEARD! contributor and 2013 graduate of Glenwood Springs High School, Felix Jimenez, and Lori Mueller, Executive Director of YouthZone.
True Media Foundation’s latest project is a youth media production focused on marijuana education. Colorado, the first state in the nation to legalize the sale and use of recreational marijuana, faces a unique problem. Though not legally sold to minors under the age of twenty-one, young people will be widely exposed to marijuana much in the same way they are exposed to tobacco and alcohol. Many questions are surfacing as to how to educate teens about this potentially damaging substance. “Marijuana and the Teenage Brain” is a collaboration with YouthZone and Roaring Fork Leadership. Together, these three non-profits are providing their community with the information they need to know about marijuana and its effects on young people.
Following this live event, the footage will be edited into short pieces viewable on the BeHeardTVLive channel on YouTube. Longer versions are available on DVD with the purpose of distribution to schools for marijuana education and to the community at large.
